A student of NKST Secondary School in Sai, Tsavnav Gabriel, was reportedly shot on Wednesday evening by personnel of the Nigerian Army in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The incident occurred as soldiers were said to be returning from Tse Jato, where they had escorted the body of a man allegedly killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Residents said the student was struck by a bullet while troops were moving through the community.
He was immediately rushed to a clinic in Sai, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Family sources disclosed that the victim’s family had earlier been displaced due to the lingering security crisis in the area.
Members of the community have called on the Nigerian Army to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and accept responsibility where necessary.
Although his condition had yet to be officially confirmed as of press time, sympathisers have continued to wish him a speedy recovery.
Efforts to obtain confirmation from the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, were unsuccessful.
