Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has warned former presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, against campaigning in the South-West ahead of the 2027 presidential election, declaring that their supporters would be resisted if they attempt to mobilise for them in the Yoruba region.
In a viral video, Igboho threatened to frustrate individuals planning to campaign for the two politicians in Yorubaland.
“No more useless Atiku or Obi in Yorubaland,” the activist said.
“If you know that you are crazy, campaign for one Atiku or Obi in Yoruba region.”
Igboho also declared his total support for President Bola Tinubu, insisting that the South-West would stand firmly behind him.
“Tinubu for second term; beyond 2027. 100 per cent. After eight years of Asiwaju, we’ll pray for extra years. Throughout Lagos and Yorubaland, it’s for Asiwaju. We will all vote for him,” he said.
The threat against opposition politicians came barely two months after Adeyemo returned to Nigeria from exile on January 26, 2026, following the removal of his name from the Federal Government’s list of wanted persons.
His return was said to have followed appeals by prominent traditional rulers, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja; the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi; and the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Francis Alao, among other prominent Nigerians who reportedly appealed to Tinubu on his behalf.
The Yoruba Nation agitator had fled Nigeria on July 1, 2021, after security operatives comprising officers of the State Security Service and the Nigerian Army raided his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The raid followed allegations that arms and ammunition were stockpiled at the residence.
The operation came amid Igboho’s campaign against armed Fulani herdsmen accused of occupying forests in the South-West and carrying out attacks, including killings and abductions of farmers.
Following the incident, Igboho was declared wanted, denied a Nigerian passport and had his bank accounts frozen during the administration of the late President, Muhammadu Buhari, despite court rulings said to be in his favour.
