Abductors of eight worshippers from Omugo community in Oro-Ago District, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have reportedly reduced their ransom demand from N1 billion to N150 million.
Spokesperson of the concerned citizens of the community, Jimoh Olaitan, disclosed this while speaking to journalists in Ilorin on Thursday.
Olaitan said the victims were kidnapped on March 22 during a service at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA).
He lamented that the community has since been deserted, with residents fleeing in large numbers due to fear of further attacks.
According to him, only vigilantes and hunters currently remain in the area to guard abandoned properties, as the local police post remains without personnel.
He said, “Omugo community is deserted. People are moving out in droves. If you go there you will only meet vigilantes and hunters that are securing the property left behind. We have a police post but no police personnel manning the station.”
He added that the abductors had insisted on collecting the reduced ransom.
“The abductors have reduced the ransom to N150 million. They are bent on collecting that sum of money,” he said.
Olaitan explained that initial demands of N1 billion were later slashed to N150 million, describing the amount as far beyond what the victims’ families and the community can afford.
He appealed for urgent intervention to secure the release of the abducted worshippers and restore safety in the area.
He said the community is calling for a coordinated rescue operation involving federal, state and local authorities, as well as security agencies.
Olaitan also urged the deployment of police personnel and logistics to the area, the activation of the police post, and the establishment of a permanent Joint Task Force base in Omugo.
He further called for the integration of local vigilantes and hunters into formal security efforts to strengthen protection in the community.
