A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on Wednesday arraigned a 55-year-old National Union of Road Transport Workers chieftain, Shamsudeen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon,” over the alleged involuntary manslaughter of a dispatch rider, Ramon Imam.
Oladiti was docked on a three-count charge bordering on involuntary manslaughter, conspiracy and attempted murder.
The prosecution counsel, Jubril Kareem, told the court that the offences were allegedly committed between August 27 and September 17, 2025, at Lewis Street, Lagos Island.
Kareem alleged that the defendant and others still at large conspired on September 17, 2025, around 10am, to commit a felony.
The prosecutor further told Justice Olawale Alebiosu that Oladiti allegedly caused Imam’s death at about 3pm on the same day by beating him with fist blows and repeatedly striking his head and face.
He also alleged that on August 27, 2025, at about 10am, the defendant attempted to murder one Samuel Omale by assaulting him with fist blows, leaving him with severe injuries.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences contravened Sections 224, 411 and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Following his plea, defence counsel, Olanrewaju Ajanaku, informed the court of a bail application dated April 27, 2026, noting that the prosecution had already been served.
“May we humbly place an application for bail. The same has been served, and my learned friend has confirmed the same,” Ajanaku said.
Responding, Kareem confirmed receipt of the application and stated that he had no objection to it.
He, however, noted that the defence sought an order directing the correctional centre to verify the defendant’s medical condition.
Ajanaku urged the court to grant the request and direct the correctional centre to confirm Oladiti’s medical status at a Lagos State Government hospital.
In a brief ruling, Justice Alebiosu granted the application and ordered the Controller of Corrections at Kirikiri to confirm the defendant’s medical status at a government hospital.
The court had earlier declined the defendant’s bail application due to some errors.
The matter was subsequently adjourned till June 15, 2026, for trial.
