- Constraint Of Fund Delaying Upgrade – Spokesperson
Concerned indigenes of Iwoland have petitioned Governor Ademola Adeleke over the deteriorating condition of Iwo General Hospital, demanding immediate rehabilitation of the facility.
The petition, dated June 6, 2026 and signed by Prince Alao Adekunle Lamuye, stated that the hospital has been left to decay for over a decade.
A post on Facebook by ‘Iwo, Osun State’, stated that the petitioners noted that the facility currently operates without resident doctors, essential drugs, electricity, or functional equipment, and has been rated 1 out of 5 by members of the public.
The petitioners noted that while the Adeleke administration has renovated and equipped several General Hospitals across Osun’s three senatorial districts, Iwo — the headquarters of Osun West Senatorial District was excluded from the upgrade.
But the spokesperson to the governor, Olawale Rasheed, said the upgrade of Iwo General Hospital is already included in the 2026 Budget.
He, however, said that many projects included in the budget could not be executed because of funding constraints.
The petition also referenced the N7.3 billion Primary Health Centre revitalisation project, under which Iwo PHC was listed but was not rehabilitated, describing it as part of a pattern of exclusion that has left the town’s health infrastructure in poor condition.
Citing the dismissal of over 2,000 health workers in 2022 without replacement, the petition added that 73% of Primary Health Centres in Osun now lack adequate staff.
The petitioners urged the governor to approve emergency funding for the full rehabilitation of Iwo General Hospital within the current fiscal quarter.
They also want the state government to “post doctors, nurses, and laboratory scientists to the facility within 30 days, restore power, water, maternity, theatre, and diagnostic services to minimum general hospital standards.
“Set up a joint monitoring committee with Iwo traditional leaders and medical associations to ensure transparency.”
Reacting to the post, Rasheed said the petitioners “politicised” the issue of sacked health workers, noting that the workers were “inconclusively engaged after former Governor Gboyega Oyetola lost the governorship election in 2022,” describing the process as “largely flawed” and aimed at “loading the payroll.”
Rasheed added that the administration embarked on a three-phase health sector reform covering primary, secondary and tertiary levels.
He claimed over 200 health centres were rehabilitated, with many in Iwo, while funding constraints slowed work on general hospitals, which fall under the secondary phase.
“We should also add our appreciation for what the governor has delivered so far. At least, no government can compare with the current records of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the development of Iwoland,” he said.
