Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has directed the immediate rehabilitation of the Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo, citing concerns over its deteriorating condition.
The spokesperson to the governor, Olawale Rasheed, in a statement on Sunday, said Adeleke gave the directive during an unscheduled inspection of the bridge.
The statement noted that the governor directed that the repairs must be completed before the commissioning of the new Okefia Flyover.
The Olaiya Bridge was constructed under the immediate past administration of former Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola.
Adeleke instructed the Ministry of Works to assess the bridge, carry out necessary cleaning, and fix all defects.

“The Ministry of Works should immediately act on this Olaiya Bridge. Let us clean it up. It is a state asset. We must ensure its proper maintenance. This should be done before we commission Okefia bridge,” he said.
The governor stressed that his administration is committed to continuity in governance.
“I believe government is a continuum. All inherited projects are being completed by our government and all completed projects by the previous administrations must be appropriately maintained,” he submitted.
