Commuters and traders who were at the Mayfair garage in Ile-Ife, Osun State, scampered for safety on Sunday following a reported attempt by a factional leader, Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, to take over the park.
The incident triggered panic in the area as gunshots were fired during the confrontation.
The situation forced many passengers, drivers and roadside vendors to flee for safety.
An eyewitness said Asiri Eniba and his team arrived at the park in an attempt to assert control over the facility.
The development heightened tension around Mayfair, a busy commercial hub in the ancient city.
Meanwhile, in a video circulating online, a police patrol vehicle was also sighted in the area allegedly escorting Asiri Eniba and his team.
As at press time, efforts to get the reaction of the Osun State Police Command proved abortive.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that military personnel later stormed the garage and stopped the takeover.
An eyewitness told OSUN DEFENDER that the presence of the military men restored calm to the area.
