The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has dismissed reports that the party’s governorship candidate in the August 15 Osun State governorship election, Hon. Najeem Salam Iwaloye, is stepping down or working in alliance with any political party.
Aregbesola also declared that no opposition party could match the strength and acceptance enjoyed by the ADC, insisting that the party entered the race to provide quality governance for the people of Osun State and not for financial gains.
The former Minister of Interior stated this in Ejigbo, Egbedore Local Government Area of the state, during the ADC campaign tour of the town.
Addressing a large crowd of party supporters, Aregbesola said reports suggesting that Iwaloye was stepping down were attempts by opposition parties to influence voters and create doubts about the ADC’s growing popularity.
He maintained that the party remained focused on winning the election and would not derail from its objective of providing good governance to the people.
Aregbesola said, “We are not in politics for money. We are only after how God will use us to prosper and set people free from bondages, and we won’t derail from that path.
“Anyone you see in our company is trustworthy. We are here to serve you. That is why we take your concerns seriously. We are not in alliance with any party. No party can withstand our might.
“We were once with the ruling party, but we left when things got sour. If we are truly after money, we wouldn’t have left when we did.
“We are going into this election and victory is ours!”
He urged ADC supporters to remain committed to the party and disregard what he described as false reports aimed at weakening the party ahead of the August 15 election.
