- Calls For Police Investigation
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused supporters of the Accord Party candidate for Osun Central senatorial district, Mr. Gani Olaoluwa, popularly known as Asejere, of vandalising campaign materials of its candidate, Kunle Adegoke, SAN, popularly known as K-Rad.
In a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that posters and billboards of Adegoke erected at strategic locations within the district were either defaced, destroyed or had posters of the Accord candidate superimposed on them.
The party described the act as condemnable, wicked and barbaric, warning that it is capable of snowballing into full-blown violence if not checked.
“We, as a party, have taken political and criminal notice of this campaign anomaly which has no other name than relishing and neck-deep in politics of intolerance and extreme bitterness by the followers of Asejere,” the statement read.
The APC said politics should be about ideas and development plans, noting that it is only a candidate weighed down by inferiority complex and fear of losing an election that would resort to playing against the rules.
It also said it was disturbed to have watched a viral video where Adegoke’s posters were defaced by Accord supporters with impunity, without any condemnation from their principal or leaders of the ruling party in the state.
The party therefore called on the Osun State Commissioner of Police to urgently investigate, arrest and prosecute those behind the act.
“This statement is serving as an appeal to the Accord senatorial candidate in Osun Central to prevail on his supporters to desist from removing or destroying billboards and posters belonging to political opponents or be ready to face the consequences through the invocation of legal instruments,” Olabisi added.
The APC urged supporters of Olaoluwa to focus on issue-based campaigns and tell the electorate what plans their candidate has for the people, rather than engaging in political hostility.
