The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dissociated itself from the inauguration of the State Presidential Campaign Committee (PCC) for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
This confirmed the exclusive report by OSUN DEFENDER that State Executive members and chieftains of the party might stay away from the inauguration.
OSUN DEFENDER reported on Wednesday evening that there was unease within the party over the composition and coordination of the council.
A top party source, who asked to remain anonymous, told OSUN DEFENDER that some state exco members and chieftains were not adequately consulted before the list was released and the inauguration date set.
“The list was released from Government House, and many of our leaders are just seeing it on social media. There is no formal communication to the party secretariat. That is why some may not show up tomorrow.
“You cannot inaugurate a campaign council for the President without carrying the party structure along. The APC has a state chairman, has a state exco, has leaders. None of them was consulted. People just woke up to see their names on a list circulated online.

“It is not about disrespecting the President. Everybody will work for Asiwaju. But if you say you want to inaugurate a council and you don’t invite people officially, you don’t hold a stakeholders meeting, you don’t harmonise interests, then you should expect some kind of cold reception. The way it is being handled is giving the impression that it is a Government House affair, not a party affair,” the source said.
Confirming the development on Thursday, the party’s chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, said the party only became aware of the inauguration through a social media post by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
In a statement, Lawal said the party considers the re-election of President Tinubu as a collective task but insisted such an exercise must be properly scheduled with the highest official protocol.
“In as much as we consider the re-election of the national leader of our party, President Tinubu, as a collective task which we have been working vigorously and assiduously to achieve through various means, it is our view and conviction that such an exercise should be properly scheduled.
“We are talking about the re-election of the President of the nation under the largest democratic party in Sub-Saharan Africa and not the election of a council chairman or that of a councillor, which is the reason such exercise should be approached with the highest official protocol required to ease the accomplishment of the exercise,” the statement read.
Lawal lamented that less than 12 hours’ notice was too short and had shut out many party leaders, members and supporters.
“We did not have the knowledge of any inauguration beyond the social media listing of some names yesterday afternoon by the spokesman of Governor Adeleke, Malam Olawale Rasheed, to the chagrin of the leaders, members and supporters of our party.
“Aside the fact that not all social media news should be taken as genuine, less than 12 hours’ notice is such short that many people who would have been around are already shut out,” he said.
He said the listing of names less than 24 hours before the event without prior meeting with the party leadership was a ploy to set the state chapter against the President.
The Osun APC, however, stressed that it was not opposed to any arrangement for the President’s re-election.
“We are not opposed to conceding anything for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential election, but our concern is that things should be done in a proper way to achieve desired results.
“We also agree that the appointment of Governor Adeleke as the state co-ordinator of President Tinubu’s re-election campaign committee would boost the chances of our presidential candidate through the joint efforts and contributions of the political parties coming together,” Lawal added.
Governor Adeleke was recently named as the Osun State coordinator for President Tinubu’s re-election campaign ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
