- Mocks Akande, Announces Osun APC Will Inaugurate Separate Campaign Council for Tinubu
A member of the Elders Caucus (Igbimo Agba) of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, Alhaji Gbadebo Ajao, has declared that former Governor Gboyega Oyetola remains the leader of the party in the state, saying anyone claiming otherwise is fooling himself.
Ajao stated this on Monday while featuring on a political programme, Agogo Oselu, on Agogo FM in Osogbo, where he also faulted the party’s founding father, Chief Bisi Akande, over his comment during the inauguration of the Osun Campaign Council for President Bola Tinubu by the state governor, Ademola Adeleke.
The APC chieftain described Akande’s remark that APC in Osun ‘ti lu daiko’ [has lost its way] during the event as a slip of tongue, suggesting the elder statesman spoke out of frustration after looking back and finding no people behind him.
“Maybe that was why Baba Akande had a slip of tongue when he said APC in Osun ‘ti lu daiko’. It is when someone looks back and doesn’t find people that he can say such words,” he said.
Ajao insisted that APC remains one in Osun and that Oyetola’s leadership is not in contention, recalling that the former governor was chosen as leader at a meeting held in Akande’s house in Ila.
He said, “APC is one in Osun State, and Oyetola is our leader till tomorrow. He was chosen as the APC leader in Baba Akande’s house in Ila. Baba Akande presided over that meeting. The National Secretary of the APC, Ajibola Basiru, was the one who moved the motion, and I seconded it.”
“If someone is saying otherwise, he is just fooling himself. Politics is about people,” he added.
Ajao also dismissed the recently inaugurated Osun Presidential Campaign Council coordinated by Governor Ademola Adeleke, questioning the presence of genuine APC members at the event.
“How many real APC members were at the Osun PCC inauguration? In politics, your strength is measured by the people behind you,” he queried.
He announced that the authentic APC structure in the state will inaugurate its own campaign council for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu this week.
“By God’s grace, this week, we will inaugurate those who will campaign for President Bola Tinubu in our party,” Ajao said.
