- Slams Adeleke Over “APC Thugs” Comment
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has promised full cooperation with the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim D. Zungura, while urging him to discharge his duties impartially in the interest of peace.
In a statement by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC said it is ready to partner with the police command to rid the state of criminals, particularly those allegedly targeting party members and supporters in the name of politics.
The statement appealed to the CP to carry out his constitutional responsibilities with the fear of Allah and in consonance with the dictates of the rule of law, fairness, honesty and integrity.
APC also demanded the proper investigation and prosecution of all the hoodlums who are in various custodies in the state over the killings and maiming of its members and supporters and the wilful destruction of their property before, during and after the governorship election.
“We are always available as a party to partner with you in your arduous task of ridding the state of criminals who have been brazenly perpetrating atrocities on the innocent inhabitants of the state, especially the members and supporters of our party,” the statement read.
The party further faulted a comment attributed to the state Governor, Ademola Adeleke, during his meeting with the new CP on Monday.
According to the APC, Governor Adeleke, during the meeting, said: “Osun people see certain police units as the home base of APC thugs.”
Describing the remark as a needless insult to both the party and the police, APC said it portrayed the governor as the state Chief Security Officer whose call for peace in the state is merely cosmetic.
The party urged CP Zungura to inject sanity into the security firmament in Osun State by continuing the arrest and prosecution of whoever is fugitive to justice, irrespective of his social standing or political leaning in the state, without fear or favour.
