- Questions Why Party Collected N50m From Him For Nomination Amid Consensus Plan
The crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has taken a new turn following allegations by a governorship aspirant, Abayomi Hunye, that some party leaders threatened him to withdraw from the race ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Hunye made the allegation while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday.
He said he was determined to seek justice and had approached the court to challenge the outcome of the party’s governorship primary.
Hunye also denied parading himself as the party’s candidate, insisting that he is only challenging the primary process.
The APC gubernatorial aspirant questioned why the party sold him a N50 million nomination form and cleared him for screening if a consensus had already been reached for Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.
He also alleged that he was excluded from a meeting of former governors and threatened by some party leaders not to contest, insisting that Yayi must be the sole candidate. Hunye vowed to continue fighting the matter through the appropriate channels.
However, the APC has strongly rejected Hunye’s claims, describing him as an impostor and insisting that Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, remains the party’s authentic 2027 governorship candidate in Ogun State.
In a statement, the APC National Secretariat and Ogun State Working Committee said Hunye was no longer a member in good standing, noting that he was suspended on April 7, 2026, by executives of his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area over alleged anti-party activities.
The party also petitioned the Inspector General of Police, demanding Hunye’s arrest and investigation for alleged impersonation and misleading the public.
Meanwhile, the APC said Adeola and his running mate, Kudirat Balogun, have their credentials validated on the INEC portal, following their upload on August 7, 2026.
