Former “American Idol” contestant and ex-church pastor, Caleb Flynn, has been convicted of killing his wife, Ashley Flynn, after prosecutors accused him of plotting her death so he could end their marriage and start a new life with his younger mistress.
The 40-year-old father of two broke down in tears in an Ohio courtroom after a jury found him guilty on all 11 counts linked to his wife’s death.
Prosecutors alleged that Flynn fatally shot Ashley while she was asleep before staging the crime scene to make it appear that an intruder had broken into their home.
The trial also focused on Flynn’s affair with 24-year-old Alleigha Botner, whom he reportedly met when she was an intern at the church where he worked as a music pastor.
Prosecutors presented more than 100,000 text messages exchanged between Flynn and Botner, including conversations about Ashley and their relationship.
Botner also became emotional in court while reading one of her own messages in which she wrote, “I want to kill her, Caleb.”
Flynn was convicted of aggravated murder and other related offences.
The aggravated murder conviction carries a possible sentence of life imprisonment without parole.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 5.
