The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of popular social media political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, in the Gaida area of Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Dan Shagamu was reportedly attacked at his residence by suspected hoodlums who forcibly entered his home.
The police said in a statement on Thursday that the victim was attacked and later taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
The command said, “Kano Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the fatal stabbing of Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu at Gaida, Kumbotso LGA.”
According to the police, the two suspects are currently in custody as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify other persons who may have been involved.
“The suspects are in custody, while investigation and efforts to arrest other accomplices are ongoing,” the command added.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that Dan Shagamu, who operated under the brand Dan-shagamu International, was killed at his residence in Kano.
He was known for sharing videos and commentary on political, religious and community issues on social media.
Amnesty International Nigeria also confirmed his death, stating that his body was found in a pool of blood at his residence.
The rights organisation called on the authorities to thoroughly investigate the killing and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
