A socio-cultural group in Osun State, Omoluabi Ethos Monitoring Group, has cautioned those behind a suit seeking to disqualify the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, from the August 16 election in the state.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that the APP in the suit, marked FHC/OS/CS/50/2026, raised questions over the credentials submitted by Oyebamiji.
In the originating summons dated March 16, the plaintiff, through its counsel, Abdulateef R, urged the court to determine whether “documents supplied to the 1st Defendant by the 2nd Defendant, and the purported publication of the 2nd Defendant as the candidate of the 3rd Defendant for the purpose of the Osun State Governorship election ought to be accepted in view of the clear provision of Section 182(1)(j) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).”
Joined in the suit as the first and third defendants respectively are the Independent National Electoral Commission and the All Progressives Congress.
The suit was instituted before a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo.
The group, while reacting
through its National Coordinator, Olawanle Aderemi, in a statement on Saturday in Osogbo, a copy obtained by OSUN DEFENDER, called on the national leadership of APP to monitor activities of its Osun chapter to prevent misuse of the party platform.
Aderemi warned that the suit could heighten tension ahead of the governorship poll and urged political actors to avoid actions capable of disrupting public peace.
He suggested that rather than approaching the court, the plaintiff could have sought clarification from institutions that issued Oyebamiji’s certificates.
“We as a group felt embarrassed seeing the court paper. In this era, it is disheartening that a political party will not mind its business but appears to show public bias in favour of another party.

“Whose interest is the APP representing through that court case? In the final list of candidates published by INEC recently, Oyebamiji submitted his WAEC and HND certificates. Where did they see the PhD-in-view in that record,” Aderemi said.
“Aside that, in Nigeria, you may be considered for professional master’s with HND if you have extensive work experience ( including being a Fellow of a recognised professional institute), so why can’t they approach the management of Obafemi Awolowo University if they are pained that Oyebamiji enrolled for their PhD?
“Instead of APP to continually exhibit crass knowledge on the street, why can’t they seek adequate information from knowledgeable people?
“This is a one-man party that always rents a crowd whenever they want to do the bidding of those in government. There has been nothing to show for their blind loyalty to the state government since they have been making themselves available for use, mostly for ignominious reasons.
“We will patiently wait for the day the court will disgrace them, to remind the one-man party of this message. We are very sure that soon their present ‘master’ will dump them for another political party they will lure at an unrealistic and dark political path, that will lead to destruction. That is their trademark,” he added.
