Two groups, Osun Team and Osun Peacemaker, have called for a transparent and credible investigation into the killing of Emir Ajagungbade, expressing concern over what they described as a lack of publicly communicated progress one month after his death.
The groups made the demand in a joint statement issued on Tuesday, marking one month since the incident.
The statement was jointly signed by the spokespersons of the groups, Comrade Samuel Ayomikun and Comrade Yakubu Olayinka.
They called on the relevant authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding Ajagungbade’s death, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The groups said the circumstances surrounding his death warranted an independent investigation, particularly given the reported struggle over the leadership and control of the Osun State Park Management System around the period.
They also called for clarity on the roles of individuals associated with different political interests within the system.
While raising questions about individuals allegedly connected to the circumstances surrounding the killing, the groups specifically mentioned Nurudeen Alowonle, stressing that they were not declaring anyone guilty but wanted credible concerns to be investigated in accordance with due process.
“Justice must be based on evidence, not rumours. But silence must not be allowed to replace investigation,” the statement said.
The groups posed several questions about the incident, including who killed Ajagungbade, the motive for the killing and what happened before, during and after his death.
They warned that the demand for justice should not be overshadowed by political interests, influence, fear or intimidation.
Describing the matter as one concerning human life, accountability and citizens’ protection rather than politics, the groups urged the government to pay attention to the concerns of Ajagungbade’s family, associates and supporters.
They also raised allegations of mistreatment of some of his associates by government officials, including claims involving the office of the Secretary to the State Government.
The groups called for the allegations to be investigated, adding that appropriate action should be taken if they were substantiated, while the government should clarify the matter if the claims were found to be untrue.

Among their demands were a thorough investigation into the killing, the questioning of all persons relevant to the case in accordance with the law, and the public communication of investigative progress and findings to the extent permitted by law.
They further urged the authorities to protect Ajagungbade’s family, associates and potential witnesses from intimidation or victimisation.
The groups also called for the resolution of lingering concerns surrounding the Park Management System, insisting that the rule of law should apply equally to everyone, irrespective of political affiliation or position.
Addressing youths, the organisations warned against allowing political loyalty to take precedence over human life and the pursuit of justice.
They urged young people to support good governance while demanding accountability and refusing to remain silent when justice was at stake.
“One month is already too long for a family to continue waiting for answers,” the statement added, urging the authorities to investigate the killing and communicate their findings.
The groups reiterated their demand for transparency, accountability and justice for Ajagungbade, his family and associates.
